There is No Cure For Obesity?

Obesity Epidemic

I was cruising the web this morning and found a new article on Dr Sharma’s Obesity Notes blog. It took me by surprise because he says that there is no cure for obesity. After reading this article, I do get where he is coming from. He suggests that to keep the weight off, an obese person must continue to work hard for life.
To me that is a cure! If you don’t want to be obese, then simply increase activity levels
and decrease calories. Will some people have to work harder than others? Sure. Saying there isn’t a cure, could make obese people too discouraged to take the necessary actions to lose weight.

Here’s an excerpt from his post:
Obesity Fact #5 in the New England Journal of Medicine paper on obesity myths, presumptions and facts, essentially boils down to the simple fact that we currently have no cure for obesity (not really news to regular readers of these pages).
Thus, as anyone, who has ever lost weight and is keeping it off, is well aware that,
“Continuation of conditions that promote weight loss promotes maintenance of lower weight
The corollary to this is that, discontinuation of whatever treatment resulted in weight loss (and yes, behaviour change is “treatment”), will result in weight regain.
